Anti Aliasing (AA)

  • Aliasing in image can be explained as the jagged lines(jaggies) that are found in lower resolution displays. The jagged lines appears because the output device is not using the high resolution to show the smooth lines.
  • Anti Aliasing is a technology which is used to resolve the aliasing found in the image.
  • We generally see the options for anti aliasing when we play games using mobile phones and when we play a video.

How Anti Aliasing works
  • Generally we see smooth lines and curves in real world. In the monitor or other devices which are showing the output, the curves and lines are breakdown into tiny squares which are called as pixels.
  • This process causes jaggies.
Anti aliasing remove these jaggies by using a technique. This might work by slightly blurring the edges until they appear to lose that jagged quality.
